  • Answer 1:
On the reverse side of tufted carpets that are able to be stretched there is a synthetic second layer, a jute backing and a woven backing. Carpets with foam backing are not suitable for stretching. Carpets with non-woven backing are very limited for the purpose of stretching. If in doubt ask your carpet dealer about the type of backing or contact your nearest carpet stretching team.
  • Answer 2:
It forms creases and bumps and in some cases it tears the backing of the carpet. The carpet has to be re-stretched or exchanged for another one.
  • Answer 3:
The carpet should be cleaned by a professional. Never use water to clean.
  • Answer 4:
It depends on the quality of the backing and also naturally the quality of the workmanship in hooking the carpet to the gripper. As a rule, tack strip are screwed (on wooden flooring), fixed with floor plugs or special adhesive on a cement floor. The strength of this special adhesive is more than strong enough to withstand the tension of the stretching. The preparation of the floor for the assembly of the nail boards is on of the essential learning skills at the schooling seminar the “Verspann-Teams Deutschland”
  • Answer 5:
Yes. The carpet stretching makes use of the natural elasticity of the carpet. A carpet fixed solely at the edges, reacts optimally to heavy loads and tension because it always adjusts accordingly. This is the reason why a stretched carpet has longer lifespan than a glued carpet.
  • Answer 6:
First of all, to see whether the stretched carpet lies evenly and straight, has no folds and is bonded neatly. If the carpet has a pattern it is relatively simple, to observe how the pattern runs evenly along the wall then it fits properly on the nail boards. The edge of the carpet must be neatly folded behind, and must sit firmly on the carpet gripper. The transition between rooms has to be neat and lie smoothly under a metal joist. The general rule is: Stretched carpets have to be firm and secure but be flexible enough to compensate for the tension and the pressure of loads.
What is more walking on a stretched carpet is softer than walking on a glued carpet. Indeed another advantage of a stretched carpet is: That if it doesn’t sit properly it can be easily corrected without additional work.
  • Answer 7:
No. Because every carpet is constructed differently they don’t exist.
  • Answer 8:
Under floor heating and stretched carpet have no negative reaction to each other- provided that the carpet has been approved by the manufacturer.
